Explanation:
Infiltration and inflow (I/I) is a common problem most water and sewer utilities in South Florida face. I/I is the introduction of groundwater and/or rainwater into the sanitary sewer system and it has many adverse consequences primary among them include increases in the cost of conveyance and treatment, decrease in the capacity of sewer system, increase in the likelihood of sewage overflows, and regulatory violations. The 2007/2008 Wastewater System Master Plan identified the need to implement several capital improvement projects and programs including Gravity Sewer System Condition Assessment, Renewal, and Replacement of the major components of the City's sewer collection system. The primary goal of this Program is to reduce infiltration and inflow (I/I) into City's sewer collection and transmission, and wastewater treatment systems.

In the past 12 years, Department of Public Utilities has installed approximately 455,000 linear feet of Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP), repaired more than 630 manholes, and made numerous points repairs to reduce I/I contribution to the City's sewer system. Department of Public Utilities wants to continue this successful program and repair manholes identified for rehabilitation.
