Explanation:

The City of Hollywood Fire Rescue & Beach Safety Department has a Hazardous Materials Team and is one of four in Broward County and one of twenty-eight statewide in the State of Florida’s Disaster Mutual Aid Plan. In addition, the team continues to function as one of the State’s regional response teams for Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) events. The Department’s Technical Rescue Team is one of five such teams in Broward County capable of responding to confined space, structural collapse, trench and high-angle rescues.

The Hazardous Materials Unit heavy rescue vehicle is past due for replacement. The current Hazardous Materials Unit was purchased in 1999. This emergency apparatus is over 21 years old and is past its useful age.

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for this purchase was approved via Resolution R-2019-147, adopted June 5, 2019, that amended the FY 2019 Capital Improvement Plan to include the General Obligation Bond projects, and funding is available in account number 333.219901.52200.564530.001191.000.000.
