Explanation:
The City has engaged Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (the “Law Firm”) to provide legal services in various matters arising out of the City’s declarations of financial urgency in 2010 and 2011. Section 38.40(C)(2) of the Code of Ordinances exempts from the competitive bid and competitive proposal requirements of the Purchasing Ordinance contracts for professional services. When professional services are purchased and the estimated annual amount to be paid therefor by the City exceeds $50,000.00, City Commission approval is required.
The fees paid to the Law Firm are approaching $50,000.00 for Fiscal Year 2018. The City Attorney estimates that the total amount of fees that will be paid to the Law Firm in Fiscal Year 2018 will approach but not exceed $80,000.00.
