Explanation:
The Fleet Management Division of the Public Works Department requires the purchase of one (1) 2016 Global Mechanical Broom Street Sweeper Model M3 to be utilized in the Department of Public Works Beach Maintenance Division to replace a vehicle that has either reached or surpassed its life expectancy by age, mileage and wear, and can no longer perform at the required operational levels.
The existing in service vehicle, a 2005 Johnson MX450 Street Sweeper, has reached and surpassed its useful life expectancy due to age, mechanical wear and rust and can no longer perform at its required operational levels.
This new unit will be utilized by the City's Beach Maintenance Division in the daily operation of cleaning the beach broad walk, the beach zone streets, and for special events.
The Department of Public Works staffs evaluated various manufacturers' street sweeping units and have identified the Global M3 Mechanical Sweeper model as manufactured by Global Environmental Products as the unit equipped to best performs the beach areas daily operational service requirements of the Beach Maintenance Division.
This purchase was evaluated for the use of alternative fuels. This equipment is available in a CNG model; however the street sweeper is housed, fueled and utilized at the beach. The purchase of the CNG model is not recommended due to the additional mileage and operational inefficiencies that fueling the machine with CNG would require.
