Explanation:
On September 4, 2013, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution Number R-2013-254 which authorized the appropriate City Officials to execute an Interlocal Agreement with Broward County for the disposal of Household Hazardous Waste and Bulk Trash and Yard Waste Drop-Off at permanent drop-off locations for a five year term on a per capita cost basis.

On September 20, 2018, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2018-296 which authorized the execution of a First Amendment to the original agreement that extended the agreement for one year with no renewals.

The Interlocal Agreement currently in effect will expire on September 30, 2019. Broward County has proposed that the current Interlocal Agreement be executed by the parties for an initial one year term and the term shall be extended automatically for four additional one year terms unless terminated by either party.

Article 4 of the current Interlocal Agreement provides that the City's payment for such services, which is based upon a per capita calculation, shall be escalated by an amount not to exceed three percent annually during the term of the Agreement.

The County's Household Hazardous Waste Program provides disposal services and electronics recycling at permanent collection sites and at remote collection events and offers the Recycled Paint Program to residents free of charge.

The per capita fee for Household Hazardous Waste under the proposed Agreement and pursuant to Article 4 will increase from $2.12 to $2.42 which increases the annual amount from $298,428.00 to $340,659...
