Explanation:

On March 20, 2023, Eric Guerrero’s (“Guerrero”) employment with the City of Hollywood (“City”) as a Fire Battalion Chief was terminated. Guerrero filed an appeal hearing with the Civil Service Board to appeal the City’s decision to terminate his employment.  The hearing was scheduled for February 20 and 22, 2024, but to avoid the costs and uncertainty of the appeal hearing, the parties reached a mutually agreed decision to resolve this claim.

The parties have negotiated a settlement in an amount as set forth in the title of the Resolution, above, which will be paid from the City’s self-insurance fund if the settlement is approved by the City Commission.

By entering into this settlement, the City does not in any manner admit liability, but rather, settlement is a business decision to avoid the risk of a hearing.

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for this settlement is available in the City’s Self-Insurance Fund.
