Explanation:

Taft Street is part of the City of Hollywood’s Roadway System.  Florida Statutes allow the Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) to use Federal funding to undertake projects within a city’s geographical limits. Pursuant to such authority, FDOT will be able to design, permit and construct certain improvements along Taft Street from State Road 7 to N 40th Avenue. These improvements include milling and resurfacing, minor widening, shared use path installation, tree disposition, lighting, drainage and signing and pavement marking.

FDOT may not spend State funds for off-system projects such as this, and there must be an agreement between FDOT and the City to maintain the project after construction.  The attached Highway Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement allows construction of these improvements as well as the long-term maintenance.

Fiscal Impact:

Maintenance of the improvements will commence upon completion of the installation. Funding for this maintenance will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years’ operating budgets subject to approval and adoption by the City Commission.
