Explanation:
The Sister City program was inaugurated by the President of the United States in 1956 to establish greater friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and other nations through the medium of direct personal contact.
All succeeding United States Presidents have endorsed the concept for the broad purposes of the exchange of ideas and people between the citizens of the United States of America and the peoples of other nations.
To implement this concept, Sister Cities International has requested the City and other communities in the United States affiliate with cites in other nations of similar characteristics and mutual interests.
The following cities are Sister Cities with the City:
1. City of Guatemala, Guatemala
2. City of Herzliya, Israel
3. City of Romorantin, France
4. City of Vlora, Albania
5. City of Ciudad De La Costa, Uruguay
6. City of Baia Mare, Romania
7. City of Lecheria, Venezuela
8. City of Higuey-Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
The goal is to promote good will and understanding between residents of our City and others and explore cultural, educational, and economic changes.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Resolution will not fiscally impact the City.
