Explanation:

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts (‘PRCA”) operates youth programs at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Kay Gaither, McNicol and Washington Park Community Centers, as well as afterschool program at Kay Gaither and McNicol Community Center; and

Grant funding has been requested and received from the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (“CSC”) for the past eighteen years; and

This funding has enabled the City to provide affordable programs such as tutoring, aftercare, and summer camps for youth residents throughout the City while offsetting costs incurred by the City; and

PRCA desires to apply for the upcoming CSC 2022-2023 Maximizing Out of School Time (MOST) grant in the approximate amount of $800,000.00 to fund these types of programs with a minimum five percent match from the City.

Fiscal Impact:

If awarded and accepted, grant funding will be made available in the Fiscal Year 2022 Operating Budget as detailed in Exhibit 1, subject to approval of this resolution.  The estimated value of the City’s in-kind match is $40,000 which is comprised of a portion of current full time PRCA staff salaries.
