Explanation:
The Police Department requires the purchase of Tasers and associated equipment in order to enhance the ability to immobilize violent suspects. When deployed, Tasers can immediately immobilize violent suspects, thereby offering a greater measure of safety to police officers. The existing Tasers Model X2 are no longer reliable nor covered under warranty. The Police Department has identified the Taser Model 7 as meeting the Department’s operational needs. The hand-held Tasers are only available from the manufacturer, Axon Enterprise Inc., the sole source supplier of the hand-held Taser Model 7 specifically designed for law enforcement use. Axon Enterprise Inc. is offering a trade-in amount for the old Tasers Model X2 valued at $25,000.00 and an additional incentive of $60,825.00, which will off-set part of the cost for the purchase of the new Tasers Model 7.
Fiscal Impact: Funding for this project was included in the amended FY 2021 Capital Improvement Plan, and is available in account number 334.209901.52100.564530.001415.000.000.
