Body
Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Ordinance.
Explanation:
The Building Division is requesting to revise our City Ordinance to be more consistent with the Florida Building Code Section 110.15 which was amended by Broward County in 2014, 2019 and 2021. The purpose of the Building Safety Inspection Program is to identify and repair unsafe components of aging buildings before they become a threat to Life Safety.
The program requires structural and electrical safety inspections, by a Professional Engineer or Architect, of buildings 40 years (or more) in age per established inspection criteria and standard building inspection forms. The building owner is then required to repair or replace unsafe structural and electrical building components which have been identified by the inspecting professional.
Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this Ordinance will not fiscally impact the City.
