Explanation:
On November 26, 2019, Ruben Ortiz filed a civil action against the City of Hollywood, for damages arising out of an accident that occurred on April 2, 2018, (Case Number CACE-19-024524).
Ruben Ortiz alleges that he was injured when a park bench collapsed from underneath him at Garfield Park. Ruben Ortiz’s claim is for personal injuries.
The City Attorney and Ruben Ortiz’s attorney have negotiated a settlement in the amount of $175,000.00.
If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the monies will be paid from the City’s self-insurance fund.
The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this settlement is available in the City’s Self-Insurance Fund.
