Explanation:
On May 12, 2019, Sarah Delekto was injured when a Hallandale Beach police vehicle was driven forward while she was sitting in front of it. The Hollywood Police Department (“HPD”) was also on the scene of the accident.
Delekto alleges that the combined negligence of the HPD and the Hallandale Beach Police Department caused the accident. On July 6, 2020, Delekto filed a civil action against the City of Hallandale Beach and the City of Hollywood for damages arising out of the accident (Case Number CACE 20-010952).
Delekto and the City of Hollywood have negotiated a settlement of Delekto’s claim against the City in the amount of $110,000.00. If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the monies will be paid out of the self-insurance fund. The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this settlement in the amount of $110,000.00 is available in the FY 2021 City’s Self-Insurance Fund.
