Staff Recommends: Approval of the Attached Resolution.

Explanation:
Broward County plans to start a federally authorized construction Rehabilitation Project of Segment III of the Broward County Shore Protection Project (the "Project), which includes the beaches of Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson Start Park, Dania, Hollywood, and Hallandale beaches.

The full construction template of Segment III consists of 8.1 miles of Atlantic Ocean shoreline from Port Everglades to the south county line and includes Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, Dania, Hollywood and Hallandale.

This will involve placing 1,000,000 cubic yards of sand in approximately two years, and is estimated to place approximately 123,200 cubic yards of beach-quality sand above the mean high water (MHW) level to avoid water quality impacts.

The goal of this project is to reduce risk, promote resilience in coastal communities, provide economic stability and opportunities, and restore critical habitat for shorebird and marine turtle nesting.

In order for the construction to proceed, the County will need access to bring sand and equipment onto the beach and has requested a temporary work easement for the purpose.

Fiscal Impact:
Approval of this resolution will not fiscally impact the City as this is a proposal for a temporary work easement agreement with Broward County for the Beach Re-nourishment Project.
