Explanation:

Tidal flooding along South Ocean Drive (A1A) and in the Lakes area has become a major problem and FDOT had installed tidal control devices, namely flap gates, along A1A from Magnolia Terrace to Jackson Street.  It was determined that these flap gates were not performing as intended.

The City of Hollywood Department of Public Utilities investigated what type of tidal control devices work best in other coastal municipalities such as City of Fort Lauderdale and City of Miami Beach and determined that the Wastop inline check valve performed satisfactorily.

The Department purchased various sizes of Wastop Inline Check Valves including certain valves that were to be used as part of the Phase IV Undergrounding of Utilities project.  The initial cost to the CRA for these Wastop Inline Check Valves was estimated at $59,810.00 and on December 4, 2019 via Resolution R-BCRA-2019-66, the CRA Board authorized the reimbursement of this amount to the City by the CRA.

Upon receipt of the final invoice however, the actual cost to the CRA for the related valves was $83,008.00, approximately $23,198.00 above the previously approved amount.  The CRA is now seeking approval to reimburse the City for the additional amount of $23,198.

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for this reimbursement is available in the BCRA FY 2020 operating budget in account number 163.639901.55200.552240.000015.000.000.
