Explanation:
The Broward Marine Advisory Committee is accepting grant proposals for the Broward County Boating Improvement Program Grant to assist with the removal of derelict vessels from waterways within the City. The recent rise in vessels anchoring within the City’s waterway system has resulted in an increase in the amount of derelict and abandoned vessels. On average, the City currently removes approximately 2-4 derelict vessels from the waterways per year.
The Police Department’s Marine Patrol Division oversees enforcement of the waterway regulations within the City of Hollywood, including but not limited to issues relating to derelict and abandoned vessels wherein the City incurs certain costs for removal of such vessels. The City of Hollywood desires to promote and enhance the safe and pleasurable use of the navigable waterways within the City. If awarded, the acceptance of said grant funds would allow for the removal of more derelict vessels.
Fiscal Impact:
If approved, the FY 2021 Operating Budget of the Police Grants Fund (Fund 113), will be amended to recognize and appropriate BBIP grant funding in the amount of $50,000.00, subject to approval by the City Commission.
