Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Resolution.

 

Explanation:

Section 932.7055(5)(c)(3), Florida Statutes, requires each local Law Enforcement Agency that acquires at least $15,000.00 pursuant to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act to donate no less than 25 percent of such Law Enforcement Forfeiture Funds during each fiscal year, or over a period of years if donation of the minimum amount would exceed the needs of the City for such programs, for the support or operation of drug treatment, drug abuse education, drug prevention, crime prevention, safe neighborhood programs, or school resource officer program(s). Agencies and organizations desiring to receive a donation of Law Enforcement Forfeiture Funds may request an appropriation by submitting a written certification that the donated funds will be used for an authorized purpose.

 

The following organizations and agencies have been selected to receive a donation of Law Enforcement Forfeiture Funds based on compliance with the statutory criteria to receive such funds: Hispanic Unity of Florida, Inc. in the amount of $10,000.00, Hollywood Art and Culture Center, Inc. in the amount of $10,000.00, Kids in Distress, Inc. in the amount of $10,000.00, Young Men’s Christian Association of South Florida in the amount of $10,000.00, and The Police Athletic League of Hollywood, Inc. in the amount of $110,000.00.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for the donations will be made available in the Fiscal Year 2020 as detailed in Exhibit 1, subject to approval of this resolution.
