Explanation:
In 2019, Dorothy Edwards filed a civil action against the City of Hollywood, for damages arising out of an accident that allegedly occurred on or about September 6, 2017.
In this civil action, it is alleged that Dorothy Edwards was struck by a City of Hollywood vehicle while walking in the area of 3251 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Florida 33020.
Dorothy Edwards’s claim is for personal injuries. The City Attorney and the Plaintiff’s attorney have negotiated a settlement in the amount of $85,000.00.
The settlement is not an admission of liability by the City of Hollywood, but rather a business decision which is being made in the best interest of the City.
If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the monies will be paid from the City’s self-insurance fund.
The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
Fiscal Impact:
Funding for this settlement in the amount of $85,000.00 is available in the FY 2020 City’s Self-Insurance Fund.
