Explanation:
The Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department is requesting the purchase of Draeger 7000 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA's) for Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Staff to replace this aging device for operational services.

A self-contained breathing apparatus is a device worn by firefighters to provide breathable air in an immediately dangerous to life or health atmosphere as encountered during firefighting conditions.

This device is due to be replaced every ten (10) years and when two (2) NFPA Updates have occurred. These two situations have occurred rendering such device to be considered obsolete.

The requested device went through a competitive bid through the Lake County Contract: 17-0606H for a term effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020.

A Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Replacement Committee was formed. The goal of the SCBA Replacement Committee was to present to the Fire Chief information to determine the acceptable replacement(s) for the MSA FireHawk G1 SCBA. The overall process consisted of both qualitative and quantitative data development and research.

After over a 7 month long process of evaluating SCBAs from the three major manufactures, the Draeger 7000 was determined to be the only acceptable replacement SCBA.
