Explanation:
On March 20, 2019, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2019-053, which authorized the acceptance of 2018 Department of Homeland Security Grant Funds from the City of Miami to the Police Department, as sub-grantee to receive Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant funds in the approximate amount of $115,000.00, to enhance public safety and emergency management UASI approved projects, training and equipment.
The Police Department desires to purchase a Robotex Avatar III Tactical Robot with accessories to be used by the SWAT Team when actively involved in critical incidents such as barricaded subjects, hostage rescues and high-risk warrant service. The Avatar tactical package is a remotely controlled robot system designed for controlled breaches of high threat, fortified locations and to remotely open locked doors and gain access to fortified areas, which dramatically increases Officer safety.
Fiscal Impact:
The cost of the Robotex Avatar III Tactical Robot with accessories will not exceed $60,325.00. Funding was previously approved and is available in the UASI Grant Funding Account Number 113.209804.52100.564530.001289.000.000.
