Explanation:

In 2017, Karen LaFrance filed a civil action against a third party for damages arising out of an automobile accident that allegedly occurred on or about April 20, 2016, while she was on duty with the City of Hollywood Police Department.

The City of Hollywood asserted in this civil action a $79,120.99 workers’ compensation lien for monies paid on behalf of Karen LaFrance resulting from the aforementioned automobile accident.

The City of Hollywood’s workers’ compensation Third Party Administrator and Karen LaFrance’s attorney have negotiated a settlement for the worker’s compensation lien in the amount of $14,241.78.

If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the monies will be paid by Karen LaFrance to the City of Hollywood.

The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.

Fiscal Impact:

The City has a lien in the amount of $79,120.99 and will receive $14,241.78 to settle this lien.
