Explanation:

On July 15, 2019, Fire Rescue 105 and Fire Engine 105 responded to a possible drowning with no signs of life.  The incident occurred on an open field that was in the development phase.  Therefore, the incident was dispatched with multiple addresses, which made it challenging to locate.  Upon arrival, Fire personnel had to negotiate a long, uneven terrain while bearing heavy equipment and knowing that the crucial element of time was working against the patient’s resuscitation effort.  However, with the deliberate determination of a handful of police officers, rescue personnel were able to stave off the most difficult of circumstances that would have hindered life-saving measures.

The extraordinary actions by the Hollywood Police Department Officers included the following:

Ÿ                     Located the exact location of the patient, with an address that repeatedly changed

Ÿ                     Created access to the patient, which initially was obstructed

Ÿ                     Performed high-quality CPR before Fire personnel arrived

Ÿ                     Provided a temporary transport vehicle from the open field to the rescue truck

All of these efforts substantially improved the outcome for patient survival.

For this critical incident (as so many others in the past), our determined firefighters and police officers, with different roles in our community, collaborated to provide the services we espouse and to give our citizen a chance to live.

The Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department is honored to recognize the above named Police Officers and Fire Rescue personnel.
