Explanation:

On July 11, 2001, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution R-2001-93, authorizing the creation of the Education Advisory Committee to obtain and review information regarding educational matters and support and promote quality education in order to make the educational opportunities in Hollywood the best available in the State of Florida.

 

Pursuant to Resolution R-2001-93, committee members must reside, work or attend public school in Hollywood, or be known for their countywide interest in education.  Further, persons of diverse perspectives shall be represented on the Education Advisory Committee, including parents of school-age or pre-school-age children, educators, business people, and persons with a background and knowledge in child development and/or education-related fields.

 

Resolution R-2001-93 was subsequently amended by resolutions R-2002-241, R-2003-144, R-2003-373, R-2004-203, R-2005-299, R-2007-421, and R-2009-188, R-2011-143, R-2012-186, R-2013-088, R-2015-180 and R-2018-176, thereby establishing the current committee composition of nine Regular Members, four Teacher Members, and two Student Alternate Members.    

 

There is one Regular Member position vacant due to the resignation of Khadja Gregory-Faal and this term expires June 30, 2021.

 

There are four Regular Member positions expiring June 30, 2018.

                     Dr. Kathy Thomas

 

There is one Teacher Member position expiring June 30, 2019.

                     Dr. Daniel Derrico

 

There are two Student Alternate Member positions available.  One is currently vacant due to the resignation of Emily Kriger, and this position expires June 30, 2019.  Grahm Rubin’s position expires June 30, 2019.

 

The City Clerk provided notice to the public that positions are available and solicited interest forms from citizens to fill available vacancies on the Education Advisory Committee.  The Community Development Division provided notice to local public school administrators about the available positions and requested administrators to notify parents and students about the opportunity to serve.

Seventeen total qualified applications were received to fill the vacant and expiring terms described above.
