Explanation:

The Police Department desires to purchase automatic license plate recognition (“ALPR”) technology and associated equipment which is designed to capture and process images of license plates and to check against a database of known plates. On November 2, 2016, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution Number R-2016-326 authorizing the acceptance of 2016 Justice Assistance Grant (“JAG”) Program grant funds in the approximate amount of $53,976.00 from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (“BSO”). In accordance with Resolution No. R-2016-326 the Police Department will utilize these grant funds for the purchase of an ALPR system and associated equipment.

The requested ALPR system and associated equipment are available from Safeware, Inc. of Lanham, Maryland pursuant to the U.S. Communities Contract No. 4400008468 and RFP No. 2000002547, which was competitively bid and Safeware, Inc., has agreed to provide the specific requested automated license plate recognition system to the City under similar pricing, terms and conditions. The City has previously purchased similar equipment which is currently in use from Safeware, Inc. of Lanham, Maryland and the product’s performance has been satisfactory.
