Title

An Ordinance Of The City Of Hollywood, Florida, Amending Chapter 74 Of The Code Of Ordinances, Entitled “Railroads”, To Clarify The Speed Limit For Passenger Trains; Providing For Severability; Providing For Conflicts.

Body

Staff Recommends:  Approval of Ordinance

Explanation:

The City of Hollywood Code of Ordinances provides for speed limits for freight and passenger trains as they pass through the corporate limits.  The Code currently allows only TriRail to exceed 30 miles per hour; however, it limits the speed of TriRail to 79 miles per hour.

In the more than 20 years since this section of the Code was amended, passenger rail has expanded, and includes Amtrack and Brightline services.  The Ordinance is being modify to provide a standard for freight and passenger trains, regardless of the operator.
