Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

On June 17, 2015, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2015-167 which established the Neighborhood Watch Advisory Board to assist the Police Department in developing a Neighborhood Watch Program to be implemented throughout the City, promote crime prevention education and facilitate crime programs in the neighborhoods, and facilitate neighborhood watch meetings.  On May 25, 2016, the City Commission passed and adopted Resolution No. R-2016-148 which amended Resolution No.R-2015-167 to increase the board membership by adding one alternate.

There are two geographical zones for the membership with seven members who reside in the eastern geographical zones and six members who reside in the western geographical zones.  The eastern geographical zones consist of: Northeast Central, Southeast Central, Northlake, Southlake, Hollywood Beach, South Federal and the Downtown District.  The western geographical zones consist of: Boulevard Heights, Driftwood, 441 Corridor, Beverly Park, Northwest Central, and Southwest Central.  The members will serve in the geographical zones which are coordinated with the Police Department’s Neighborhood Team Leader Patrol/Neighborhood Zones.

There are vacant expiring terms in the eastern geographical zone due to the expiring terms of Linda Hill Anderson for Northeast Central, Nila Williams for Southeast Central and Peter Pazer for South Lake and the vacant not filled position for Hollywood Beach.  There are vacant expiring terms in the western geographical zone due to the expiring terms of Silvius Sfera for 411 Corridor, Samuel Bentolila for Northwest Central and the vacant not filled positions for Boulevard Heights, Driftwood and Southwest Central.

The Southwest Central western geographical zone is vacant due to the removal of Peter Trummel whose term expires on June 30, 2019 and the remainder of her term will need to be filled.  One eastern geographical zone position for Hollywood Beach for Lois Feinberg is expiring on June 30, 2018.  Staff recommends the deletion of the alternate position whose term is expiring on June 30, 2018.

The City Clerk provided notice to the public that positions were available and solicited interest forms from citizens to fill available vacancies.
