Body

Staff Recommends:  Approval of the attached Ordinance

Explanation:

The Charter Review Committee was created for the purpose of conducting a comprehensive study of the City Charter.  By a vote of two thirds (2/3), the Charter Review Committee may submit proposals to amend or revise the Charter to the City Commission.

The Charter Review Committee must submit to the City Commission any proposed amendments or revisions with associated ballot language no later than the first Tuesday in June.  The City Commission shall place the Committee's proposals with the associated ballot language on the ballot.

This ordinance adds language which requires the Commission to conduct an annual review for the City Manager and City Attorney at a public meeting.  The changes also require the City Manager to keep the City Commission fully advised as to the general condition of the City as well as apprised of the City’s financial status.  Language is also added to require the City Attorney to be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
