Explanation:
This Resolution and attached LED Lighting Agreement between Florida Power & Light and the City of Hollywood provides for the conversion of 5,788 FPL owned and maintained street lights within the City of Hollywood to Light-Emitting Diode (LED) street lights. FPL has an LED street light conversion program available in accordance with its LT-1 Tariff.

There are a number of benefits to be realized by moving forward with this upgrade to the City street lighting, including increased lighting levels and improvements to Citywide lighting quality which would help address safety concerns within the City's neighborhoods, commercial corridors and main roadways and will have a positive Public Safety impact for crime prevention traffic safety pedestrian, and bicycle safety as well as satisfy the Criminal Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines. The LED street lights have increased energy efficiency, have a longer life than the High-Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPSV) lights and will decrease the carbon footprint of the City. This conversion will also have a positive impact on Dark Skies through mitigation of light pollution.

There are no upfront expense to the City of Hollywood in the accomplishment of this project. This Agreement shall be for a term of ten years from the date of initiation of service, and shall be extended automatically for further successive periods of five years from the expiration of the initial ten-year term, unless either party shall have given written notice to the other of its desire to terminate this Agreement.
