Explanation:
The Police Department, contingent upon City Commission approval, intends to submit a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration for the Law Enforcement Strategies for Reducing Trespassing Pilot Program Grant. The Federal Railroad Administration initiated this grant program to assist communities at risk for rail trespassing related incidents and fatalities and the objective of the program is to evaluate the effectiveness of funding local law enforcement activities intended to reduce trespassing on the rail right-of-ways.
Law Enforcement Strategies for Reducing Trespassing Pilot Program grant funds will be approximately $60,000.00. If awarded, the Hollywood Police Department would utilize the grant funds for rail trespassing enforcement related activities and report those activities and the associated benefits to the Federal Railroad Administration.
The Chief of Police recommends that the City Commission authorize the appropriate City Officials to submit a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration for the Law Enforcement Strategies for Reducing Trespassing Pilot Program Grant.
