Title
A Resolution Of The City Commission Of The City Of Hollywood, Florida, Approving And Authorizing The Appropriate City Officials To Implement A Settlement With Ivanna Brown In The Amount Of $100,000.00.
Body
Staff Recommends: That the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
Explanation:
In 2014, Ivanna Brown filed a civil action against the City of Hollywood, for damages allegedly arising out of an accident that occurred on or about May 8, 2013. In her civil action, Ivanna Brown alleges that she fell out of her wheelchair when its front wheels struck a defect in the pavers of the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk located at or near Nevada Street, Hollywood, Florida 33020. Ivanna Brown’s claim is for personal injuries. The City Attorney and the Plaintiffs’ attorney have negotiated a settlement in the amount of $100,000.00. The settlement is not an admission of liability, but rather a business decision which is being made in the best interest of the City. If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the monies will be paid from the City’s self-insurance fund. The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
