Staff Recommends: Approval of the Attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The City Commission supports the implementation of complete streets for safe travel and access by all users utilizing varying modes of transportation and to promote a safe, healthy, livable and sustainable community.

The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) obtains federal funding to be appropriated towards complete street projects. Through the Department of Public Work’s efforts, the Broward MPO allocated federal funding for a portion of the project’s costs towards the Federal Highway Complete Streets Project from Pembroke Road to Sheridan Street, Project Nos. 441582-1 and 439991-1.

In an effort to optimize project implementation and provide cost and time savings, the City, Broward MPO and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) agree delivery of the design, construction and project management services for the two above referenced projects is best provided for by FDOT.  As such, FDOT requires the City to endorse FDOT’s delivery of the projects.

Staff will include in the back-up, existing and preliminary proposed cross-sections of the referenced Federal Highway Complete Streets from Pembroke Road to Sheridan Street project.
