Title

A Resolution Of The City Commission Of The City Of Hollywood, Florida, Formally Approving Charities And Fundraising Events Supported By The City Of Hollywood.

Body

Staff Recommends: Approval of the attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The Board of County Commissioners of Broward County adopted Ordinance O-2011-19 relating to a Code of Ethics for County Commissioners as well as elected municipal officials.  Section 1-19(c)(5) of the Ordinance places restrictions and requirements on an elected official engaging in charitable contribution fundraising.

The City Commission places great emphasis on the importance of local charities and fundraising events.  Section 1-19(c)(5)(a)(4) of the Ordinance provides an exemption to the disclosure requirement for charities and fundraising events formally approved by the officials of the governmental agency. The City Commission of the City of Hollywood desires to formally approve certain charities and fundraising events to be supported by members of the City Commission.

Currently, in order to provide information on which charities and fundraising events the City Commission may desire to support pursuant to this Resolution, the City Commissioner’s disclosure forms may provide some guidance in which the following charities and fundraising events were listed:

Hollywood Art and Culture Center,

YMCA of South Florida,

Community Enhancement Collaboration,

Rotary Club,

Boys and Girls Club,

American Cancer Society.
