Explanation: The attached Resolution seeks City Commission authorization to accept 2016 Department of Homeland Security Grant Funds from the City of Miami in the approximate amount of $120,669.41 to enhance public safety and emergency UASI approved projects, training and equipment.

The U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, through the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management has subgranted the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program FY2016 to the City of Miami and its contiguous partners in the amount of $5,158,500.00.   This program targets homeland security funding to “high threat” urban areas in order to prevent, respond, and recover from threats or acts of terrorism and other disasters of natural man-made origin.  These funds are to be used, as stipulated in the grant, for the purchase of specialized equipment, exercise, training, administrative services and development of the Urban Area Homeland Security Strategy, and other planning activities to ensure a successful program. In accordance with The City of Miami Resolution (File No. 16-1110), the Miami City Commission authorized its City Manager to execute the attached Memorandum of Agreement with its contiguous partners, which includes the City of Hollywood. As a sub-grantee of these grant funds, the City of Hollywood will receive $120,669.41 to utilize for the purchase a Public Works fuel trailer; a video camera surveillance system, security access system and security card readers at the Police Department; security access card readers at Fire Stations 40 and 5; and portable first aid kits for the Department of Fire Rescue and Beach Safety. The purchase of this equipment will be in accordance with the City’s Purchasing Ordinance and will be presented to the City Commission at a later date.

This proposed Resolution has no impact on the City-Wide Master Plan.
