Title

A Resolution Of The City Commission Of The City Of Hollywood, Florida, Approving And Authorizing The Appropriate City Officials To Execute The Attached Agreement Between the City of Hollywood and The Port Everglades Rowing Club, Inc. D/B/A Hollywood Rowing Club ("Club").

Staff Recommends:  Approval of the Attached Resolution.

Explanation:

The Port Everglades Rowing Club d/b/a Hollywood Rowing Club (Club) has been operating a rowing program for the past 20 years in Holland Park.  During the first agreement, they constructed a boat storage building and a rowing dock, both of which they maintain at their cost.  They worked closely with other community rowing programs, specifically Nova Southeastern, University School and other local rowers to promote the sport of rowing.

The current agreement commenced in 2010 for an initial five (5) year term and provided for three (3) additional two (2) year renewal terms.  The parties renewed the agreement and current agreement will expire on July 30, 2017.  Under the current agreement, the Club paid no rent for use of the space but there is no cost to the City since they maintain their own facilities.  Their presence in the park is beneficial as a positive activity which deters unacceptable behavior.  They are also working to make future improvements to the park and boating facilities.

However, the parties have mutually agreed that the Club will begin to provide compensation to the City for use of the premises whereby a new agreement is being proposed to include the compensation. The new agreement is attached hereto for consideration by the City Commission.
