Body

Staff Recommends: Approval of the Resolution.

Explanation:

In 2015, Cheri Stabile, who was then a police officer for the City of Hollywood, Florida, filed a civil action against the City for damages and other relief under the Florida Whistleblower’s Act.  In her civil action, Ms. Stabile alleges that the City took adverse personnel actions against her for disclosing, to an appropriate local official, information of suspected violations of law committed by the City.

Ms. Stabile’s original settlement demand was $350,000.00.  The City Attorney and Ms. Stabile’s attorney have negotiated a settlement in the amount of $155,000.00.  If this settlement is approved by the City Commission, the City’s insurance company will pay $140,000.00 and the City will pay $15,000.00.

The City Attorney recommends that the City Commission approve the negotiated settlement.
