Explanation:

The City of Hollywood’s adopted budget contains an allocation of $20,000.00 from the General Fund to provide grants to local school teachers via the City’s Excellence in Education Grant Program.  Broward Education Foundation, Inc. (“BEF”) administers the grant program via an agreement executed in 2014 between BEF and the City.  BEF coordinates its administrative activities with the City’s Education Advisory Committee to facilitate the Committee’s evaluation of grant proposals from local teachers.

The grants are designed to give teachers the opportunity to implement innovative programs that enhance the educational experience of students.  These projects have helped to increase students’ enthusiasm for learning, improve the level of students’ achievement, and increase the likelihood that students will stay in school.  Teachers typically receive their grant award during BEF’s Annual Teacher Expo held in February.

Twenty (20) teachers received grants funded by the City.  This year, an additional twelve (12) local teachers received $4,800.00 in Adapter grants funded by BEF.  The Education Advisory Committee and BEF will jointly recognize recipients of grant funding.
