Explanation:
The Department of Public Utilities requires the purchase of Sodium Hydroxide (Full Truckload and Less than a Full Truckload).
Sodium Hydroxide is used in the pH control in the finished water at the Water Treatment Plant.
Sodium Hydroxide is used to neutralize hydrogen sulfide odors at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The City of Margate, Florida, acting as the lead agency for the Southeast Florida Governmental Purchasing Co-op, awarded its Bid Number 2017-008 for the purchase of Sodium Hydroxide to Allied Universal Corporation of Miami, Florida, for an initial term of one (1) year with an option to renew for two (2) additional one (1) year periods.
The Director of Public Utilities and the Director of Procurement & Contract Compliance recommend that the City Commission approve the issuance of the attached Blanket Purchase Order for the purchase of Sodium Hydroxide (full truckload and less than a full truckload) for a one (1) year period with an option to renew for two (2) additional one (1) year periods to Allied Universal Corporation for an estimated annual expenditure of $202,000.00.
Section 38.46 of the City of Hollywood's Purchasing Ordinance provides that the Director shall have the authority to join with other governmental entities in cooperative purchasing plans when the best interest of the City would be served.
The City of Hollywood has done business with Allied Universal Corporation in the past with satisfactory results.
Award is subject to the City's receipt and approval of all insurance certificates required by the City's Risk Manager.
