Staff Recommends: Approval of Attached Ordinance

 

 

Explanation:

This Ordinance seeks to amend a subchapter of Chapter 33 of the Code of Ordinances titled “Firefighter’s Pension and Retirement”, to make certain changes and amendments to the referenced subchapter as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) between the City and the Hollywood Professional Fire Fighters, Local 1375.  The pension changes agreed upon in the MOU are as follows:                

For purposes of this subchapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.

 

                     BENEFICIARY.  The person or persons entitled to receive benefits hereunder if the death of a member who has been or have been designated in writing by the member and filed with the Board.  A trust may be named as a beneficiary with regard to DROP account distributions.  If no such designation is in effect, or if no person so designated is living, at the time of death of the member, the beneficiary shall be the estate of the member.
