Explanation:
During the 2016 legislative session, the City of Hollywood submitted an appropriation request for street lighting upgrades in the Liberia community. The Liberia community boundaries are located between Stirling Road and Sheridan Street from North 22nd Avenue to North 26 Ave.
The purpose of the proposed grant for the Liberia community is to provide funding to address street lighting concerns where pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles (including the elderly) share the roadways and sidewalks in less than ideal conditions. Through the efforts of Senator Eleanor Sobel and Representative Shevrin Jones, the appropriation request was funded.
City staff coordinated a tour of the Liberia neighborhood, which included civic leaders from the Liberia community, District 2 Commissioner Peter D. Hernandez, and representatives from the City's Police and Public Works Departments.
