Body
Staff Recommends: Approval of the Attached Resolution.
Explanation:
City of Hollywood open spaces consisting of the parks, sport fields, conservation sites and beach is owned and governed by the City of Hollywood.
Second-hand smoke has been determined to cause or significantly contribute to a number of serious health related problems, and it is the will of many citizens of the city that the City Commission institute a no-smoking support resolution for Hollywood’s open spaces to help protect the public from the dangers of second-hand smoke through the use of signage.
The City Commission is unable to enact an Ordinance banning smoking in public open spaces that will not contradict State Law; and the City Commission has determined the health and safety of the citizens of Hollywood and others who may use public open spaces in Hollywood to be significant and important.
