Explanation:
Bryant Miller Olive (“the Law Firm”) represents the City in several labor and employment matters. The Law Firm has submitted what is believed to be its final invoice for FY 2016 in an amount not to exceed $6,000.00. Payment of this invoice will bring the total amount paid to the Law Firm for FY 2016 to an amount that approaches but does not exceed $56,000.00.
Section 38.40(C)(2) of the Code of Ordinances exempts contracts for professional services from the competitive bid and competitive proposal requirements of the Purchasing Ordinance. However, when the total amount to be paid to a vendor for a fiscal year exceeds $50,000.00, City Commission approval of payment of the amount that exceeds $50,000.00 is required before such payment can be made.
