Explanation:
The Broward County Marine Advisory Committee is accepting grant proposals for the Broward County Enhanced Marine Law Enforcement Grant for fiscal year 2017/2018. The purpose of this grant is to improve boat safety by in Broward County by providing funds for the enhancement of Marine Law Enforcement and education. The City has been the recipient of these grant funds in the past. The City of Hollywood Marine Unit oversees this program and the major emphasis of the Officers assigned to the EMLEG patrols is to conduct boater safety inspections and address environmental and regulatory concerns. The principal goals of the EMLEG patrols are to reduce vessel accidents, reduce water violations and educate the boating community. The area in which EMLEG will supplement Enhanced and Aggressive marine patrols is Zone VIII, Dania Beach Boulevard to Hollywood South Boundary. This grant will allow the Marine Unit to greatly expand the days and hours of Police Marine coverage on the waterways within the specified zones and during the times of concern. These hours are in addition to the normal scheduled hours and will be provided to the City at no cost upon approval.
