Explanation:
The Florida Department of Transportation has set aside reimbursement funding to promote the Florida Safe Routes to the School program. A school, together with a maintaining agency, can apply for funding to construct sidewalks to serve its students and encourage safe pedestrian school access.

In 2014 and 2015 the City of Hollywood applied for and obtained funding for Safe Routes to School sidewalks in the area near Colbert Elementary. The design work is proceeding, and a funding agreement with FDOT is anticipated for late 2017, the construction will take place after the funding agreement is executed.

The Department of Development Services desires to apply for the Florida Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School funding to construct sidewalks in the area east of Oakridge Elementary, west of Avant Garde Academy and north of Montessori Village.

FDOT requires a Resolution of support from the City in order for the application to be accepted and evaluated for ranking. If awarded, this reimbursement funding will cover the cost of construction and the City will be responsible for associated costs such as design, surveying, consultant fees and testing. The City's portion of costs is estimated to be $100,000.00 and funding can be made available subject to Commission approval through the adopted Capital Improvement Plan in the year of construction which is estimated to be FY 2019 and certain accounts will need to be established to fund the work and recognize the reimbursement funding.
