Explanation:
The City of Hollywood, Department of Public Utilities has the responsibility for planning, regulating, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining a water treatment plant and a regional wastewater treatment plant within the City's corporate limits.

In 2014, the Public Utilities Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (ICE) staff performed a high level assessment of the existing water and wastewater treatment plants' Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA).

The assessment focused on documenting existing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) hardware and software and provided a roadmap towards the automation and SCADA improvements for optimization of several systems and processes within the Utility primarily aimed towards increasing operational efficiency and reduction of chemical costs.

Following the recommendations and findings of the high level assessment, the Department of Public Utilities staff requested a proposal from Black & Veatch Corporation to develop and implement automation and SCADA improvements for optimization of the Oxygenation, the Chlorination, and the Effluent Pump Station at the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
