Explanation:
During the 2016 legislative session, the City of Hollywood submitted an appropriation request for street lighting upgrades in the Washington Park community. The Washington Park community boundaries were identified as being located between Washington Street/Pembroke Road and also between South 52nd Street/State Road 441.
The purpose of the proposed grant for the Washington Park community is to provide funding to address street lighting concerns where pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles (including the elderly) share the roadways and sidewalks in less than ideal conditions. Through the efforts of Senator Eleanor Sobel and Representative Shevrin Jones, the appropriation request was funded.
City staff coordinated a tour of the Washington Park neighborhood, which included civic leaders from the Washington Park community, District 6 Commissioner Linda Sherwood, and representatives from the City's Police and Public Works Departments.
