Explanation:
On January 9, 2008, the City Commission passed and adopted R-2008-005, authorizing the execution of an agreement between Johnson Controls, Inc. (JCI) and the City of Hollywood.
The Department of Public Utilities acquired the existing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system to provide meter reads used to bill the City's approximately 40,000 customers.
The City desires to replace the Meter Transmission Units (MTUs) that were installed as part of the agreement with JCI due to the high failure rate of the MTUs.
The MTU failures cause inconvenience to customers and require billing consumption estimates, the end result of which is degraded customer billing service.
The vendor has been unable to modify their product to reduce the failure rate of the MTUs.
Neptune has an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) with Meter Interface Units (MIUs) that are fully potted and designed to operate in our hot, humid and wet environment.
The City currently has installed predominately Neptune meters and registers that are compatible with the new Neptune Meter Reading system.
On May 2, 2013, the City of Laredo, Texas awarded their RFP Number RFP FY13-012 for Water Meter/AMR/AMI System - Utilities Department for a five year period.
