Explanation:

Hollywood Boulevard from City Hall Circle to Dixie Highway is part of the City’s roadway system. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) has committed funding from Federal and State sources to promote their “Complete Streets” program. The City was awarded approximately $6,800,000.00 within the Broward MPO’s 2014 Transportation Improvement Program to fund a Complete Streets project on Hollywood Boulevard between City Hall Circle and Dixie Highway (revised to $8,700,000.00 as per Draft 2017 Transportation Improvement Plan).

The Florida Department of Transportation, in coordination with the City of Hollywood, and the Broward MPO have developed Construction Documents for the project, held public meetings, and initiated permitting and constructability reviews. FDOT will contract for and construct the improvements, using Federal and State funds to construct of all the hardscape elements to include the paving, grading, drainage, lighting, signalization, walkways, signage and pavement marking elements of the project. The City of Hollywood currently maintains this section of Hollywood Boulevard and will continue to maintain the newly constructed roadway in accordance to Federal and State standards. FDOT requires this understanding between the City and FDOT be formalized through the execution of the attached Highway Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement.

The Florida Department of Transportation has developed Maintenance of Traffic Plans (MOT) to allow one lane of traffic in each direction, while keeping parking on each side of the road available during construction. To complete the improvements planned at 24th Avenue, it will need to stay closed to vehicular traffic during construction for a period of approximately two weeks each, for every phase of the MOT plan (south side of road, north side of road, and median).

Project elements that are not funded by the Broward MPO include landscaping, irrigation and site furnishings which are estimated at $600,000, to be funded and constructed by the City of Hollywood, through inclusion in, and adoption of the 2017 Capital Improvement Program.
