Explanation:

The Hollywood Police Department maintains a facility capable of booking and temporarily receiving any person who is arrested in Broward County. This facility has proven invaluable to the Hollywood Police Department and other agencies in southern Broward County. From 2001-2010, the Sheriff provided detention staffing and prisoner transportation services in support of Hollywood’s facility. In 2010, Sheriff Lamberti temporarily ended his financial support of the facility; however, a new agreement was entered into in 2012.  In 2013, Sheriff Israel terminated the agreement. Since that time, the City has subsidized the Sheriff’s personnel expenses associated with detention staffing and transportation.

The Sheriff is legally responsible for providing all detention services in Broward County. To that end, this resolution requests financial support from the Sheriff and the Broward County Commission. This resolution further authorizes city officials to execute an appropriate memorandum of understanding that will further each agency’s shared objective of public safety.
