The names of the nominees in each category, and their respective school, are contained in the exhibit attached to this item.

The top awards and recognition of the Finalists in each category took place at the Broward County Public Schools Caliber Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale.  It should be noted that Hollywood schools administrators comprised two out of a field of six Finalists for Assistant Principal of the Year and Hollywood schools teachers comprised three out of a field of six Finalists for Teacher of the Year.

Additionally, Beachside Montessori Village School, located at 2230 Lincoln Street, was recently designated a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  The school was one of only 47 schools receiving the prestigious Green Ribbon Schools Designation nationwide.

“The Green Ribbon Schools Award program is part of a U.S. Department of Education effort to identify and share practices that improve student engagement, promote higher academic achievement, enhance health and wellness, and increase graduation rates and workforce preparedness, as well as increasing energy independence and economic security.”

Vered Roberts is the Principal of Beachside Montessori Village; Wendy Case is Assistant Principal.

The Education Advisory Committee believes that the accomplishments of these administrators, educators, employees and school are worthy of recognition during a City Commission meeting.
