Explanation:

 

The Director of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts and the Director of Procurement Services recommend that the City participate in the Summer and Aftercare Food Service Program at no cost to the City for students in the summer camps and aftercare.

 

The State of Florida, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) and the Department of Health (DOH), offers a Summer and Aftercare Food Service Program for children which provides snacks, breakfast, lunch and/or dinner as required by DACS/DOH for children 18 years old or younger from low income families.

 

On January 21, 2016, the City of Hollywood Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts requested informal proposals from DACS/DOH approved sponsors. 

 

Proposals were due by 3:00 p.m. on February 19, 2016, and resulted in the following two (2) responses:

 

1.                     Flipany, Inc.

Fort Lauderdale, FL

 

2.                     After School Programs, Inc.

Deerfield Beach, FL

 

 

Flipany, Inc. was selected to become the Food Service Program Provider for the 2016 Summer Camps and 2016-2017 Aftercare programs.

 

Flipany, Inc. provided all requested information, possesses over six (6) years of experience, serves as sponsor for 85 sites, awarded Healthiest Food award by DACS for summer food program, and have been the food service provider for the City of Hollywood for this past summer and this school year with no issues and offers both hot and cold meals.

 

In accordance with the State Program, the City of Hollywood will act as the Site Sponsor and allow utilization of City facilities by Flipany, Inc. 

 

In accordance with the State Program, Flipany, Inc. will act as the Food Service Program Sponsor and will be responsible for furnishing each meal and snack.

 

The children who will be served meals and snacks will be the Recipients of the Food Service Program.

 

It is anticipated that approximately 400-500 low income children will be served a daily breakfast and lunch at the following locations in the City:  Kay Gaither Community Center @ Beverly Park, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, McNicol Community Center and Washington Park Community Center.

 

An additional 70-75 low income children will be served a daily snack and dinner at the Kay Gaither Community Center at Beverly Park during the aftercare program.

 

The City of Hollywood Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts has chosen Flipany, Inc. to be the Summer and Aftercare Food Service Program Sponsor for an initial term of one (1) year with three (3) additional one (1) year options to renew.

 

The Food Service Program is available at no cost to the City as DACS/DOH will reimburse Flipany, Inc. for each meal and snack provided for furnishing each meal and snack.
